In a new study conducted by researchers at Columbia University, testing shows that those that are physically active in their 60’s and onward, can slow the brain’s natural process of shrinking. Traditionally, exercise has been associated mainly in curbing cardiovascular disease, but this shows that with good exercise the brain can greatly benefit. Those most physically active maintained a moderate to vigorous exercise program, several days a week. This could include tennis, swimming or hiking, versus walking. The key: the overall blood flow increased to your brain, helps your neurons and ultimately your cognition.
